Volcano Popocatepetl erupted yesterday

While we were celebrating on roof top yesterday night, our eyes started itching and soon the floor, sofas, tables… everything was covered in volcanic ash. Volcano Popocatepetl erupted with tremendous amount of ash. This was quite a unique incident for all of us.

I realized seeing pics in the morning that the eruption was actually very huge. Here is the news coverage translated in English and the pic taken at the dawn yesterday

Top of La Malinche

A short post just a bit to mess up the chronology in the blog :)  - On Saturday Louis and myself made it to the top of La Malinche after several km's of walking up to the volcano. It got more and more steeper and we ended up with rock climbing to the very top.
Some pictures and a short video below about the atmosphere in appr. 4460m altitude.

Cinco de mayo parade

Thanks to Paula, we got to go to the roof top of the hotel and have a perfect view of the parade. Otherwise only Louis, Peter and Flavio could have seen it.

Also it was cool to see all the 066 emergency services in the parade (such as ambulances, mountain rescue, urban rescue, fire department). Security team works very closely for past three weeks.

I posted some pictures from my camera here

I am sure Volker and Krishna have more and better pics.

8 hours long hike (Volcano La Malinche)

We had a 8 hours long trek to Volcano La Malinche climbing through volcanic ashes. Team executed stress test on themselves and tried to reach point of their maximum limits.  And also a team pic at the beginning point of the trek.

Below is the picture of the volcano, after completing about 50% of the trek through the forest.. I tried to plot the approximate heights achieved by team members

Although it seems we reached quite close to each other before quitting, each of those points on the top are around 30 to 45 minutes away from each other and about 45 degree slope

Busy day today

It was a very busy day today with the entire team working on creating their presentations and doing the required research at the same time. The presentation seem to be coming out well with about 45 slides already made. We have to also do a small presentation for governor which is supposed to be kind of summary of what we are doing.

We went the college hangout place today near the university close by. we were probably the oldest customers there. But the food is very good there. We also took some photos outside the security office.

Hey, who wants pork rinds and popcorn?

In Puebla's last home game of the season, the team played a great game against second place Atlas. Puebla tied the game at 1 in the 85th minute, and the packed stadium of over 35,000 fans went wild!

Prior to that, most of the fans were occupied with filling up on whatever the many stadium vendors were selling.

Secuirty team's visit to State Police Academy

The two weeks check point meeting with Security department officials went alright. We had two of the three main stake holders attending the meeting. With English presentation on the wall, Omner had some hard time translating both – the slides and our speech at the same time. We decided to have final presentation translated in Spanish to make things easier.
After 4pm, Louis and I went to the State Police Academy in Puebla Downtown with Paula. We recorded some new observations there.

Cholula Market

Awesome tastes at Cholulas market!!

Stairway to Heaven

In today's trip to Cholula...these steps lead up to the church of Our Lady of Remedies, built on top of the Great Pyramid of Cholula.

Great dinner last night at La Casa de Los Muñecos. It is located near Puebla's Zócalo.

The food and service was very good.  Steve ordered a Caesar Salad and they prepared it table side.  After 15 minutes and several waiters getting involved, Steve got his special salad.

Two weeks Check-point Meeting

We had out two weeks check point meeting today for all the three subteams. Health and Security teams worked from IBM office today. Alfanso – IBM Puebla Branch Manager – managed to arrange security team's meetings with IBM's business partner on i2 solutions and it was very helpful. They took us to a very nice fashion mall with quite few expensive brands and restaurants. We went to a Spanish restaurant and I have Tortillas Espaneol – Spanish Style tortilla with eggs, onion and potato. They were expensive but very tasty. Alfanso joined us later but because of his meetings, he had to go for McDonalds.

Security team had created a few charts on Thursday itself to present them to the check point meeting in the security corporation. So we decided to use the same for Friday meeting.

Later we had checkpoint meetings with Alfanso and then with Governor's representative Raul. The meeting seems to have gone fine for all the teams. All the three teams independently had one common comment for all the government departments in health, education and security that they need better HRMS tools to know their own workforce better.

Security subteam hard at work at new hotel

We transferred to a new hotel yesterday from La Purificadora to La Descansería. Instead of relaxing at the "Descansería," the Security Subteam is hard at work in the hotel's lobby (shown below).

Also with the change in hotels, we saw our first clouds and rain in Puebla after almost two weeks.  We didn't think this was possible!
